Weekly inspiration

Release toxic energy—

The holidays are stressful enough on their own without any help from toxic associates, family or friends. The holidays are synonymous with gratitude & gathering…stress from anyone that could absolutely trigger a flare, is unacceptable. Setting firm boundaries is an absolute necessity when managing chronic illness. I recently had to do so once again myself. A childhood friend recently phoned me. Somehow, I missed the call. Between numerous doctor appointments, specialists and just not feeling well, I honestly didn't realize I had missed her call. Afterall, it’s not as if we speak daily or weekly anyways. What followed was not a are you okay, just checking in…no. What I got was a barrage of nasty emails, texts and phone messages. I was floored. I have literally been too incapacitated to keep my eyes open, let alone have the energy to engage in such selfish nonsense.

The decision was easier than I would have ever imagined. No more being polite and not one more apology. For some people no explanation you give is ever enough, and those are the toxic personalities that stunt your healing. Living with Sjogren’s has taught me many things, one of the most important being that NO is a complete sentence. This holiday season I urge you to protect your peace and bask in the glow of self-love and self-preservation.

Cold Air & Your Lungs

Remember—Sjogren’s is a systemic & chronic disease, that can involve your organs. Lungs and kidneys tend to be the target. As temps continue to plummet, be reminded that when living with Sjogren’s, you must take extra precautions when temps turn frigid.

Dry, cold air can irritate already inflamed airways. As beautiful as the sun is—and our bodies do need it, remember to keep your nose & mouth covered in frigid temps. This seemingly simple act can help insulate the lungs and help make breathing much easier, while keeping lungs moist and hydrated.
