Affordable prescription meds at your door.

It’s no secret that chronic illness and the meds that help you manage it can be expensive—very expensive. As policies drastically shift and change, leaving many with premiums double or triple what was once paid, finding assistance for what just may be a lifesaving medicine can be horrifying. According to the independent health tracking poll (KFF.org) more than half of Americans (60% to be exact) see the cost of their prescription meds as a financial burden, while 11-13% sold personal items or adjusted employment in order to just pay for needed medication.
These stats are horrific. Fortunately, there are some amazing nonprofit organizations working tirelessly to offer prescription medication at affordable and accessible prices. One such organization is Good Pill. Not to be confused with the prescription savings program Good Rx, these two are completely separate entities.
Good Pill is a non-profit organization founded in 2017 with the sole mission of providing people with affordable medication, right at their front door. The home delivery aspect of this program addresses the lack of access to a pharmacy for a myriad of reasons. Many with chronic illness or mobility challenges, have extreme difficulty in getting to a pharmacy and others live at too far a distance to easily travel—especially on their own. Offering free home delivery on top drastically reduced prices is a game changer.
Currently Good Pill operates with partnerships in three states with more on the horizon. Georgia, Illinois, and Maryland as the latest partner. It doesn’t matter if you are uninsured, underinsured or just dealing with the exorbitant costs of keeping up with multiple medications. Good Pill is there as a resource for all. According to their data, most patients save approximately $150 per month on average. An amount that could keep a family from choosing between food or medicine. The sign-up process is very simple, and you can even check to see if the medications you need are in stock on the website before signing up! A win, win all around. If you or someone you know may benefit from this amazing program, click the link https://goodpill.org to view all of the benefits offered and how Good Pill may be of service to you.

Pearls of Wisdom
Yesterday is gone and what tomorrow may bring is unknown. Focus your energy and every good thought on the present. This day, this moment. Be grateful…. someone didn’t get to experience today on this side of Heaven. Whatever you may be going through, remember this—-there’s a rainbow after every rain. It gets better; you just have to hold on.

Dish of the Day……
Fall is in full swing and so is the craving for comfort food—-well, that’s all year for me, but I digress. If Sjogren’s has taught me anything, it’s the need to give my immune system all the support I can. One of the ways I do this is by adding more anti-inflammatory foods to my diet. Salmon and almost any green vegetable are among my personal favorites and so is today’s dish. I didn’t create this recipe, but I certainly enjoy making it. Only 20 minutes and a full, delicious meal is on the table. I do add a healthy amount of low-fat cheese to mine but that of course is optional. The ingredient list and recipe are below.

Original recipe (1X) yields 4 servings
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1¼ pounds skinless center-cut salmon fillet, cut into 1-inch pieces
8 cloves garlic, thinly sliced, divided
¾ teaspoon salt, divided
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper
5 cups broccoli florets
2 medium red bell peppers, seeded and chopped (2 cups)
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon grated orange zest
1½ tablespoons orange juice
1 tablespoon reduced-sodium tamari
1 tablespoon thinly sliced scallions
Directions
Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large nonstick skillet with a lid over medium-high heat. Add salmon pieces and half of the sliced garlic in an even layer. Sprinkle with ½ teaspoon each salt and crushed red pepper. Cook, uncovered, stirring and turning occasionally, until the salmon is opaque on all sides and just cooked through, 4 to 5 minutes. Using a fish spatula or tongs, transfer the salmon to a plate.

Without wiping the skillet clean, add 5 cups broccoli, the chopped bell peppers, 1 tablespoon water and the remaining sliced garlic and ¼ teaspoon salt. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender-crisp, 4 to 5 minutes. Stir in 1½ tablespoons orange juice and 1 tablespoon tamari. Gently fold in the cooked salmon. Divide among 4 shallow bowls; spoon any remaining liquid from the pan over the bowls. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon orange zest and 1 tablespoon scallions.
